Paid job-training project provides opportunities

I am a social work intern from UNCG and have been working with the homeless population at Greensboro Urban Ministry and the Interactive Resource Center. Our biggest challenge, apart from transportation, has been finding employment for our clients. Without income, everything, from housing to health care, is an enormous challenge.
I was excited to learn about the training program provided by Welfare Reform Liaison Project Inc. This program allows participants to receive paid training and certification in construction work. I want to thank all parties responsible for this program and others like it. This opportunity will truly change people’s lives.
The more we educate and train people for careers, the more we empower them to take control of their lives. I have no doubt that programs like this will significantly reduce the number of people dealing with homelessness in our community, so please keep them coming.

I was right: the due date for the assignment is near. Sadly, the upbeat, optimistic assessments of last year's letters seem not to have panned out as hopefully as was predicted. I really thought we had everything sorted out last year. Sigh.

This LTE has good grammar and several complete thoughts, so at least it was not painful to read compared to some of the homework letters the N&R prints.

I'm getting tired of these, though. How about a letter writing assignment from the quantum physics department or from English literature instead?

Someone who sees what is working, what is right, and takes time out to say so - thank you Ms. Griffith! It is just that sort of feedback that will encourage other employers to consider participating in these programs.

"Our biggest challenge, apart from transportation, has been finding employment for our clients."

That currently is a big challenge for a lot of people.

Question please. While I have no problem with helping train people for job skills, is the "paid training" ever repaid once one gets a job?
