Alamance man charged with killing wife, setting home on fire

GRAHAM — Sheriff’s deputies have ruled the Monday night death of a woman found inside her burning home a homicide and arrested her husband Tuesday

Maria Natacha Oris-Thomas, 27, of 1155 Mapleridge Road was found dead inside her burning home following an anonymous 911 call just after 9 p.m. Monday.

Following an investigation that spanned both Alamance and Durham counties, deputies arrested the woman’s husband — Alphonza Leonard Thomas, 27, just after 2 p.m. Tuesday.

Thomas has been charged with first-degree murder and first-degree arson in connection with Oris-Thomas’ death. He is being held without bond in the Alamance County jail.

An investigation is ongoing and authorities have not released a motive.
