Peggy Good, a fixture in the Olde Leaksville business district, was honored as 2009 Citizen of the Year by the Eden Chamber of Commerce at its annual meeting last week.

The Eden Chamber also named Steve Williams its Volunteer of the Year. Williams, an employee at CenturyLink, has served on the chamber’s Board of Directors and has volunteered with the organization. He serves as chairman of the board for Dan River Water Inc. and coaches youth softball and baseball.

The Reidsville Chamber of Commerce also recognized members of its community at an annual meeting in January.
Texie Needham of Home Savings Bank was named 2009 Business Person of the Year. Needham volunteers with the Betsy-Jeff Penn 4-H Center, the Federated Women’s Club, and the Reidsville Kiwanis Club . She served as the annual giving campaign co-chair for Rockingham Community College in 2009 and was chairwoman of the chamber’s Board of Directors for almost two years.
Bonnie and Allen Purgason, owners of Reidsville Florist and Gifts, were named the 2009 Small Business of the Year.
The full-service florist opened more than 17 years ago and now boasts a well-stocked retail, wine and gourmet shop. The Purgasons have been involved for years with Boy Scouts and other youth groups at their church, and they are quick to assist residents in times of need. This business for many years donated the ribbons for every chamber ribbon-cutting and continues to support the chamber in many ways.
