GREENSBORO — It could have been worse.
That was the general consensus Tuesday, a day after Dudley basketball standout P.J. Hairston suffered a leg injury in the final seconds of a loss to Oak Hill Academy during the MLK Day N.C. Scholastic Classic.
Tests on Tuesday morning revealed a sprained left ankle for the North Carolina-bound junior, who was off crutches and dealing with less swelling, Dudley coach David Price said.
The reigning News & Record Player of the Year wasn’t expected to practice Tuesday, and his status is “up in the air” for a pair of important conference games this week, Price said.
The Panthers, 5-0 in the Metro 4-A, play host to second-place Western Guilford in a rescheduled game today, then travel to Grimsley on Friday.
“He’ll go as the pain will let him go,” Price said. “We’ll try not to push him too hard. We’ve got other people to fill in. They just won’t be P.J.”
