Southern Lights Bistro to reopen this spring

Thursday, January 14, 2010
(Updated Wednesday, January 20 - 9:06 am)

Southern Lights Bistro will reopen this spring.

When the restaurant closed last year, co-owner John Drees bid farewell to the old location, confident he would reopen the restaurant that had retained a loyal following for almost 25 years. Today, Drees is a happy man.

"I'm excited. We've made a turn," says Drees.

After months of speculation, and the possibility of a change in the restaurant's name, Drees announced today that he will definitely reopen Southern Lights Bistro at 2415 Lawndale Drive, the former home of Roosters Gourmet Market & Gifts.

He says the menu will feature daily fish and chicken items in addition to lots of old favorites.

As long as they bring back the Milano...absolutely the best sandwich on earth.

I've been feeling poorly for months and it must be the Milano withdrawals....So what is going to happen to the former Southern Lights location? That's a primo spot, and you would think the demographics (Sunset Hills and WesterWorld) would support something bistro-like there on Smyres Place.

Nuff said. Looking forward to Milano's, Sonoma's and Med Sal's. You Rock John-see you there!

I am so thrilled! I haven't known where to go eat for nearly a year now....can't wait, although I'm sad it's not still on my side of town....I understand that John wanted to expand at smyres place and the landlord wouldn't let him. Don't worry John...all of your old customers will be back.
