CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. — A 21-2 run by Chattanooga to open the second half erased a six-point halftime deficit and lifted the Mocs to a 58-45 win over UNCG on Monday at McKenzie Arena.

Ty Patterson, the Southern Conference player of the month for December, scored 14 points to lead Chattanooga.

"I don't think we had our legs in the second half tonight, playing our third game in five days," UNCG coach Mike Dement said. "We are in this stretch where we play five games in 10 days and three games in five days within that and those things happen when you have that. We played hard in the first half and really got after it, but we just didn't have our legs on offense in the second half."

Ricky Taylor added 12 points and Chris Early had 10 for the Mocs (10-6, 2-1 Southern Conference).

It was the 100th win for Mocs coach John Shulman in six seasons at the school. The Mocs allowed their lowest point total since surrendering 46 points to Furman on Jan. 10, 2009.

Chattanooga trailed 26-20 at halftime but opened the second half on a 13-0 run. The Mocs grabbed their biggest lead at 45-30 on a layup by Early with 10:15 to play in the game.

The Spartans (3-13, 2-3), who outrebounded Chattanooga 43-37, had 16 second-chanced points compared to four for Chattanooga.

"I thought they looked rusty in the first half, having not played in four or five days," Dement said. "But they definitely came through in the second half and looked much more like the team we saw on film."

The Spartans, led by Brandon Evans with 10 points, made 25.8 percent of their field goal attempts (17-for-66).

Ben Stywall became the 18th player in school history to record 1,000 career points. He had a tough night shooting from the field, however, going 2-for-11 from the floor and finishing with seven points and a game-high nine rebounds.

Mike Dement is not a very good coach, there are a lot of UNCG grads out there who want to see uncg succeed in basketball. Dement has not come close to having the same amount of success as Fran McCraffry. Fran's worst year = Dement's best years.

Come on AD can this loser!!
