GREENSBORO — The case of a fatal hit-and-run from October will be presented to the grand jury, prosecutors said Tuesday. The next grand jury meets Jan. 19.
Grayson Warren Dawson, 48, of Eden, faces charges of felony hit and run, misdemeanor death by motor vehicle and driving while license revoked in the Oct. 24 death of Summerfield resident David Sherman.
Troopers said Dawson was driving northbound on North Church Street just north of N.C. 150 when she steered left of center and hit Sherman head-on. He died instantly, troopers said.
At Tuesday morning’s hearing, District Court Judge Tom Jarrell continued the case to March 2, giving the district attorney’s office time to present the case to the grand jury. If the grand jury indicts Dawson, her case will move to the Superior Court level.
The judge also accepted well-known local defense attorney Locke Clifford as Dawson’s attorney of record. Clifford often takes on high-profile cases, such as the Tolly Carr who was charged in a fatal DWI accident in 2007 and Sidney Lowe Jr., accused of armed robbery in 2008.
Chris Parrish, the Guilford County assistant district attorney assigned to Dawson’s case, spent more than 45 minutes behind closed doors with Sherman’s widow, daughter and supporters after the hearing. Clifford also addressed the group, but would not say what they discussed.
