WILMINGTON (AP) — One person has died and four others were injured in an early morning fire at a North Carolina apartment complex.

Multiple media outlets report the fire began around 3 a.m. Saturday at the Cypress Pointe Apartment Homes in Wilmington.

The fire destroyed four apartments and damaged all 16 units in the building. It took firefighters 30 minutes to get the blaze under control. More than a dozen people spilled into the parking lot, most in pajamas in the freezing cold.

Authorities say 23-year-old Rory Michaelson died in the fire. She graduated in December with a degree in special education from nearby UNC-Wilmington.

Fire officials say they are trying to determine the cause of the blaze, but don't think it was intentionally set.
