No misprint: Duke women win by 89

NO. 8 DUKE 117, N.C. CENTRAL 28: Joy Cheek scored 16 points to help No. 8 Duke defeat N.C. Central 117-28 on Monday night in the biggest rout in school history.

The Blue Devils' 89-point margin of victory was the sixth biggest in women's Divsion I basketball over the past 10 years according to STATS.

Duke (10-2) scored the first 22 points and closed the first half with another 22-0 run. The Blue Devils led 65-9 at halftime, tying a school record for points in one half.

A school-record nine players scored in double figures for Duke, which had season-high figures for points, field-goal shooting (58.8 percent), assists (35) and threes (10).

"I have really never seen a stat sheet like this in my 18 years -- or 171/2 years -- of head coaching, in terms of nine people in double figures," Duke coach Joanne P. McCallie said. "That's kind of unusual, and I think it's a credit to the team to share the ball like everybody did."

NO. 1 CONNECTICUT 78, NO. 12 FLORIDA STATE 59: Tina Charles scored 16 of her 24 points in the second half in Connecticut's 50th straight win. Florida State (11-2) pulled within 31-29 on Courtney Ward's jumper with 4:26 in the first half, but never got closer.

NO. 9 GEORGIA 59, CLEMSON 47: Angel Robinson had 12 points and 14 rebounds as Georgia improved to 12-0 for the second time in three seasons. It was Robinson's second double-double in three games, both against ACC opponents.

NO. 23 VIRGINIA 69, SAMFORD 60: Monica Wright scored 28 points for Virginia. Wright also had nine rebounds and six steals for the Cavaliers (8-3), who led 35-31 at halftime. Chelsea Shine and Simone Egwu had 10 points apiece.

No. 24 Georgia Tech 63, Hampton 54: Brigitte Ardossi scored 24 points on 9-of-12 shooting to lead Georgia Tech in the FIU Sun and Fun Classic. Alex Montgomery had 12 points and Deja Foster added 10 points and nine rebounds for the Yellow Jackets (11-2).

TOP 25: Jantel Lavender scored 31 points to lead No. 6 Ohio State to a 76-47 win over Illinois. ... Alyssa Karel scored 21 points and Wisconsin shocked No. 16 Michigan State 62-54. ... Brittainey Raven had 26 points to help No. 17 Texas beat Central Michigan 94-83. ... Tiffany Clarke had 27 points and 11 rebounds to lead No. 18 Vanderbilt over East Tennessee State 96-83. ... Danielle Orsillo scored 15 of her 16 points in the first half and No. 19 Arizona State won 74-37 over Furman. ... Kayla Tetschlag had 25 points to lead No. 22 Green Bay to a 75-64 win over Southern Illinois.

DAVIDSON 79, PENN 50: Brendan McKillop scored 19 to lead four players in double figures for Davidson (5-8).

Davidson jumped out to an early 8-0 lead, and then went on an 11-1 run for a 24-8 advantage with 9:43 to play in the first half.

RICHMOND 66, UNC-WILMINGTON 64: Kevin Anderson made two free throws with 30.2 seconds remaining to win.

Anderson's foul shots put the Spiders (10-3) ahead 65-63, helping Richmond get off to its best start since an 11-2 beginning in 1987-88.
