OPINION

Medicare program cuts will hurt senior citizens

Sunday, December 27, 2009
(Updated 3:05 am)

I thought this country was “one nation, under God, with liberty and justice for all.”

Not the case with Medicare Advantage. Sen. Bill Nelson has kept it for Florida seniors, but Kay Hagan refuses to protect her seniors. This is an important program for seniors. If she can’t vote for us, we shouldn’t vote for her next election. This is as bad as it gets.

Mr. Black of Stoneville, believe me, Senator Hagan voted for you, and me, and all other North Carolinians, and all our nation's citizens, when she voted for the Senate health care bill! No doubt about it! And I will vote for her -- again! Seriously.

Yesterday you wrote of the Senate health care reform bill as having all of its flaws and limitations. Do tell Mr. Burtner. The letter writer writes of seniors in Florida presently being able to keep their Medicare Advantage plans by the present bill and as for those seniors in North Carolina that Senator Hagen is not concerned about by including a similar provision for them as well. This will be decided by the United States Supreme Court whether this is constitutional I would believe if the bill goes forth in its present writing there. As far as voting for Senator Hagen it is too bad that she is not up for election until 2014. Provided she runs, you vote for her as you write that you will do and I will cancel your vote.

xeno(IQ)10 you're pretty stupid, aren't you? (I know, it's a rhetorical question).

Sigh...

A cut in medicare is "as bad as it gets"?

Thanks FDR. (honorable mention to LBJ of course)

Don't worry, Mr. Black, Medicare won't be cut. That's just one of the many lies being spread by Democrats so that they can say this thing is deficit-neutral. Democrats won't cut Medicare; one of their main campaign tools is telling old folks that the nasty Republicans will cut their Medicare or Social Security. Rest easy.

"Republicans will cut their Medicare or Social Security."

Well they should.

As you have repeatedly said.

"Unconstitutional." No?

Yea but Hagan voted to drop 800 million dollars of medicaid cost on the citizens of NC.
She threw the NC taxpayers under the bus, too protect the seniors in Florida, California, New York, Michigan, and Nebraska.
If worse Perdue is not complaining about it.
Another far left liberal extremist, that enjoys freedom from the media.
Can you image the heat Burr should have got, if he had did this?

"Can you image [imagine] the heat Burr should have got [gotten], if he had did [done] this?"

I can "image" that being a lot different since Republicans have never been fans of Social Security or Medicare--you know those "handouts" etc.

Yea, those handouts that Doug and Sawdust partake of but whine about.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe people have SS & Medicare taxes removed from their paychecks over their working careers and then recieve the benefits upon retirement. How does that become a handout?

dcolin

So,
You don't think they are unconstitutional as Sawdust and Neocon do.'

How about health care reform.

Also,
"taxes removed from their paychecks over their working careers and then recieve the benefits upon retirement. How does that become a handout?"

That is true of any govt program. You paid taxes for it.
So it is not a hand out is it.

Try again dan

I actually agree with you
Are you becoming a liberal?

Mr. danagain,
Within a year to 18 months, most retired people have withdrawn every dime they put into the system. For a bloke who cannot understand having the hospital cover you is a handout, this one is probably just too complex for you.
From a historical standpoint, it was meant to be a "safety net" but it has become a given in today's world. FDR was a visionary and made many great strides for our country. I am always stunned to see how "conservatives" misunderstand purposes and procedures. Providing assistance for top earning physicians is not a handout, but providing assistance for food for the poorest is a handout.

Sorry Mr. danagain, but to quote another on this blog, "You really aren't very smart, are you."

I can't tell if Mr Black is mad or jealous.?

In reply to dcolin's remark I am neither mad or jealous I'm disgusted in the lies Obama has said over the last year such as " If you like your insurance you can keep it." Call it what it is a LIE.And by the way those that think Medicare Advantage is a hand out I pay a monthly premium for this program.

1) I take Medicare advantage
If people want to call it a handout I don't care.
Lots of people call Medicare a handout

2) Now I can't tell if you are pissed off ( disgusted ) with Hagan or just Obama.
If Hagan had got the deal would you be ok with it? I can't tell thats my question

After reading some of these responses I believe there should be an IQ test on U.S. History before you can reply. I also believe that calling people stupid because you can't have a reasonable debate should disquaulfy you also. I know I set myself up for those of you who really love France and other socialist countries so let me here those intelligent discussions you would like to share.

"After reading some of these responses ... "

Don - this blog is pretty predictable ... after a shore while everyone knows who's gonna say what. Here's a joke:

Guy goes into prison, and all is quiet on the block. Then one fella down the hall hollars "TWENTY_THREE" .. and the entire prison howls with laughter. After a long silence another fella at the other end hollars "SIXTEEN" .. and once again everyone howls with laughter.

The new guy asks his bunk mate what's going on and is told there is not much turn-over and therefore few new jokes. All have been told so many times numbers were assigned to simply remind everyone of the worn out joke.

The new guy decides to try it out and hollars "THIRTY_ONE".

Silence.

The new guy asks his bunk mate what happened. The bunk mate replies, "Face it, some folks just can't tell a joke."
