WINSTON-SALEM — A man has been charged with murder and attempted robbery in the shooting death last week of a man selling snacks from his truck.
Jose Merlin Henriquez Portillo, 25, was arrested Wednesday and charged with first-degree murder and attempted robbery with a dangerous weapon. He was held in jail without bond.
At 9:19 p.m. on Dec. 16, Winston-Salem police officers were sent to 2738 Pepper Court on a report of someone being shot. They found the body of Cirilo Avila, 35, of 1025 E. Devonshire St.
