WINSTON-SALEM — A 35-year-old man was shot and killed and another was seriously wounded Wednesday night, police said.
At 9:19 p.m., Winston-Salem police officers were sent to 2738 Pepper Court on a report of someone being shot.
They found the body of Cirilo Avila of 1025 E. Devonshire St.
A second man was taken to Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center for treatment of an apparent gunshot wound.
He was in serious but stable condition as of early Thursday morning, police said.
Police have withheld his identity pending notification of next of kin.
The circumstances of the incident were still being investigated.
Winston-Salem Police Capt. David Clayton says Avila sold snacks from his truck for El Jarocho. Clayton said robbery is a possible motive.
Police ask those with information to call the Winston-Salem Police Department at 773-7800, Crimestoppers at 727-2800 or the Spanish line at 728-3904.
It was Winston-Salem's 16th homicide of 2009.
