MAYODAN — An incentives package from the town of Mayodan and Rockingham County will help a new plastics molding company start production in 2010.

Blow Molded Solutions at 225 Commerce Lane will receive a total of $28,500 in municipal and county property tax refunds over three years, starting in 2012.

In return, the company must employ 19 people full-time and invest about $1 million in building improvements, machinery and equipment by the end of 2010. Production workers will earn about $12 to $13 an hour.

Mayodan Town Council members unanimously approved its share of $12,800 on Monday. The Rockingham County Board of Commissioners approved an additional $15,700 last week.

“I think anytime we can get jobs in Rockingham County, we need them,” said Andrew Martin , a Mayodan council member. “Even though it’s 19 jobs — for people who don’t have jobs it will be a real plus.”

Scott McNeil , founder and general manager of the company, said 10 workers will start producing items, including nursery plant pots, in a leased building in January. McNeil said he has seven years experience in the industry and worked at a molding company in Reidsville.

“Rockingham County and the (town) of Mayodan have been great to work with,” said McNeil, who lives in Greensboro. “They are the reason we chose to locate in Rockingham County.”

Great news...and in addition to job growth...Rockingham County leaders should do much more in the way of promoting the area as a residential bedroom community, which would bring in a low maintenance tax base. It is a beautiful area...convenient to all of the triad, with reasonable (not low) tax rates and greatly improving schools.
