GREENSBORO – Three inmates at the Greensboro jail have been charged in connection with an assault on another inmate with a handle removed from a door.
According to arrest warrants, Gerard Davis Lewis, 18, and Justin Dupree Scales, 20, are accused of assaulting inmate Darnell McQueen on Tuesday.
Scales is accused of striking McQueen over the head with a metal door handle, which was allegedly removed by another inmate.
McQueen was charged with assault with a deadly weapon and Scales was charged with simple assault.
A third inmate Daziya Jarnell Johnson, 17, was charged with defacing a public building for allegedly dismantling the handle from a door at the facility.
Lewis and Johnson both received $1,500 bonds for their role in the incident, while Scales received a $5,000.
The bonds are in addition to amounts levied for numerous other charges the men were being incarcerated for.
