Update: Elections board ends exam of Clay Aiken

Wednesday, December 9, 2009

RALEIGH (AP) — A North Carolina election board has determined there's evidence showing former "American Idol" runner-up Clay Aiken may have voted illegally in Wake County this fall. But officials don't plan further action.

The county elections board voted unanimously Wednesday to end its investigation at a preliminary hearing because Aiken wrote a letter asking officials to remove him from their voting rolls, making the issue moot.

The local Republican Party chairman filed a complaint because Aiken voted in Wake County elections even though he has a house in adjoining Chatham County. Aiken has criticized local school board candidates.

Wake County GOP Chairman Claude Pope said after the hearing he was happy with the outcome.

Aiken didn't attend the meeting.

"full-blown investigation"

WHY do we spend money on stuff like this WHY!

Who cares where Clay voted, he spent most of his time out of state with touring and promotional events in the north east and west coast in the past years ,I am just fed up with this type nonsense someone needs to really get a life! Maybe put this initiative towards getting NC jobless some work possibly ! We have bigger fish to fry going into 2010.

This is another example of government trying to intimidate people which is very dangerous. First, Obama taking a list of people who did not support his economic plans, then Pricey Harrison trying to investigate Blue Cross Blue Shield for their opposition to health care reform and now this. I don't recall anything like this in the past... is it a vast left wing conspiracy?

Let me share a bit more of the story. Wake County voters, in this recent election, did what apparently some of the Greensboro voters did in another locale. They basically adopted the posture of "vote the bums out." In Wake, the BIG turnaround centered on the school board. The board in place had done a lot of things to rankle a lot of people...and without making this too long, at least one of the significant issues was the implementation of MANDATORY year-round schools. So, Wake voters, through their votes, said enough is enough and completely changed the bent of the board. Clay Aiken came out with his critical statements because, apparently, he liked what the "old" school board had done. While we all may have bigger fish to fry, this concerns me on two levels. First, NOBODY should be voting where he isn't legally entitled to vote. "Thrown" elections can conceivably come of that if enough people do it. Second, the voters SPOKE loud and clear. Sadly, for Mr. Aiken, his side lost. His sophomoric comments are nothing more than sour grapes. "My guys lost...wah, wah, wah!" The day that Clay Aiken moves into Wake County, then his vote will be legit. As a public figure, he gets more recognition than most...but it still doesn't mean he has something important to say. I'll give him a LOT more credence if, someday, his son actually attends Wake County Public Schools. What do you think the odds are that will happen?
