We do not often think of a business as showing a lot of kindness during the busy holiday season, but TJ Maxx impressed me last Saturday night as I shopped alone at closing time.
I stopped by the store for just a few minutes before closing and noticed an off-duty policeman working as a security guard in the store.
I shopped and when I prepared to walk out he held the door and said, “I will watch you until you get into your car.”
To some people, this would be nothing. However, in this time of climbing crime rates against private citizens, this was a real blessing. This is a great idea for TJ Maxx to have that much concern for their customers.
The officer went beyond the call of duty and that is most admirable.

I’m sure I speak for all the people here on Cook-Stewart Road in Whitsett when I say that we have the best neighbor anyone could ever have.
We call him “Bug.” He is ready to do anything for his neighbors. He plows gardens, scrapes ice, digs holes and ditches, mows the side of the road and blows leaves.
He grows vegetables, watermelons, cantaloupes and greens and shares with his neighbors. He never asks for anything in return.
He is the best friend anyone could ask for, and I just wanted to thank him from the bottom of my heart. God bless you, Bug.
