GREENSBORO — Six Guilford County Schools administrators received contract extensions this week but not by a unanimous vote.
The Board of Education voted 8-2 to approve deals for several top administrators Tuesday, including Chief Financial Officer Sharon Ozment and Chief of Operations Leo Bobadilla.
There were no salary increases included.
Debate about the extensions took place in a closed session, but board member Darlene Garrett, who cast one of the two dissenting votes, said after the meeting she objected to giving Bobadilla a new deal.
“I just don’t have the confidence in him the rest of the board does,” Garrett said.
Garrett and several other board members recently expressed frustration over a lack of information about construction projects and other concerns Bobadilla manages.
Board member Paul Daniels cast the other “no” vote. Daniels said he objected to the extension of one staff member but declined to name that individual.
“I had reservations about a member of the staff and didn’t feel like the offer of a contract extension was the right thing to do,” Daniels said Thursday. “But I’ve since talked to that person and reached a point where I can work with that person better.”
The contract extensions were not made public before the vote.
Eric Becoats, chief administrative officer, said the issue was a personnel matter and needed to be discussed in closed session.
Board member Carlvena Foster was absent from the meeting.
