Katy Drews, a Stoneville resident and a sophomore at McMichael High School, was chosen along with 10 other teenagers in the state to serve on the youth council for the N.C. School Community Health Alliance.
Members of the new council will serve for at least a year and are charged with recruiting and leading a group of their peers through a community project to address teen health issues.
The alliance, which receives money from the Kate B. Reynolds Charitable Trust and the W.K. Kellogg Foundation, is a statewide organization supporting the work of school health centers.
The 56 school health centers in the state deliver preventive care, including mental health services, to adolescents.

The Rockingham County Help for Homeless thanks two groups for providing needed donations.
The Fellowship of Christian Athletes from Reidsville High School collected bed linens and gently used clothes during a recent football game. Francie Trent and other student athletes organized the event.
The Rev. and Mrs. James P. Tharrington Jr. and Evangel Fellowship Church of God in Christ in Reidsville donated cots and more than 1,000 canned goods for the Room in the Inn Shelter. The church also volunteered to help feed residents during the year.
The grass-roots organization now needs volunteers and monetary donations for operational expenses. Call 548-9533 to volunteer or make a tax deductible donation.
