TENNESSEE: Freshman safety Janzen Jackson will start Saturday against Kentucky, bolstering a Volunteers secondary that has been struggling. Coach Lane Kiffin reinstated Jackson to the team a day after prosecutors dropped attempted aggravated robbery charges pending against him since Nov. 12.

NOTRE DAME: Athletic directors Jack Swarbrick said during the taping of a radio show that coach Charlie Weis will return with the team after the Stanford game Saturday instead of staying on the West Coast to recruit. Weis had said Sunday he planned to stay on the West Coast recruiting, just as he had last year when he and Swarbrick met to discuss his future after the regular-season finale at Southern California.

l Quarterback Jimmy Clausen was sporting a black eye at practice Tuesday. According to a university official, Clausen was punched outside a South Bend, Ind., bar early Sunday morning. No charges have been filed.
