WENTWORTH — A new committee tasked with improving hunting practices in Rockingham County will hold its first meeting on Dec. 1.
The hunting advisory committee, appointed by the Board of Commissioners in September, will meet at 6:30 p.m. in the Commissioners Annex on the second floor of the Governmental Center, 371 N.C. Hwy 65. They will discuss the group’s scope and meeting schedule.
The committee’s 10 regular members include Commissioner James Kallam, Sheriff Sam Page, District Attorney Phil Berger Jr. and N.C. Wildlife Officer Barry Joyce.
Commissioners established the committee in response to complaints from residents that some hunters are trespassing on their property and hunting while intoxicated. Some of these incidents resulted in fights, Kallam said.
