The ”Rethink Reform” TV ad, using the former Congressional Budget Office director who is, of course, paid for her services, was funded by the Employment Policies Institute. EPI was created by Rick Berman, who lobbies for the restaurant, hotel, alcoholic beverage and tobacco industries. Let’s think about that.
The viewing public always should research who is behind any “public service ad.” Anybody can pay for a TV ad. But we need to question it and think it through for ourselves.
The EPI, financed by low-wage companies in the hotel and restaurant industry, is known for issuing misleading studies against such things as a minimum wage. Berman has always fought any minimum wage whatsoever and any health care benefits. In the mid-’90s, he fought the Clinton health care reform proposal.
He urges the public to rethink reform when he in fact cares nothing about the public, only his own wallet. Rethink that!
