GREENSBORO — Come January, the city will have a new Parks and Recreation director.
Gregory Jackson, park operations and athletic services division director for Mecklenburg County, will head up Greensboro’s parks department starting in Jan. 16. He replaces Bonnie Kuester, who was director from 1992 until she retired in January 2009.
Jackson, an Ohio-native, has supervised the day-to-day operations of the parks in Mecklenburg County since 2005.
He has previously worked at parks departments in Fort Myers, and Naples, Florida.
He will earn $113,500 in Greensboro.
“Greensboro’s got a good greenway system, a very good history of programming in the community,” Jackson said of the city’s parks department.
“It is great to come to a community where they understand the importance of parks and recreation.”
