WENTWORTH — A Waynesville consulting group will study the potential for broadband Internet access in Rockingham County, after the Board of Commissioners hired the company on Monday.
The board approved paying The Howell Group up to $49,000 to determine how the county could best accommodate the fiber optic cables or wireless transmitter sites for fast-speed service. The county will pay the company $41,000 to conduct the study and possibly an additional $8,000 to help the county’s Business & Technology Center apply next year for federal stimulus funds to pay for service expansion.
