GREENSBORO -- Two of the best-known performers in the nation will be in town Sunday night and that likely will mean heavy traffic around the Greensboro Coliseum Complex.

Tweenmania will take over High Point Road at 7 p.m. when Miley Cyrus takes the stage at the coliseum. A half-hour later, R&B superstar R. Kelly will take the stage at the coliseum’s Special Events Center.

Andrew Brown, a spokesman with the coliseum, said he expects about a total of 22,000 people at the shows. ACC tournaments draw about 23,000 to the coliseum.

Despite the big crowd, Brown said there shouldn’t be too many headaches.

“It’ll certainly be a busy day, but it’s something we do almost every day of the year,” he said.

Coliseum parking lots open at 1 p.m. Doors open at 5 p.m. for the Miley Cyrus concert. The Miley Cyrus concert is ticketless, so parents and fans will need to have the credit card used to purchase the tickets on hand and photo identification for the cardholder.

A free waiting room also will be available for parents who don’t want leave the Coliseum Complex.

Police will be out in full force for traffic control. Lt. K.A. Walters said traffic likely will be heavy but should move efficiently. She said concertgoers should try to leave at least an hour early.

“Be patient and know where you’re going,” Walters said.

If you don’t know where you’re going. you may end up in Tracy Ramirez’s neighborhood just off High Point Road. When big events come to the coliseum Ramirez said she sees plenty of turn-around traffic on Williams Street.

“It’s hectic,” she said. “Anytime there’s something over there. I can’t let the kids play out here in the evenings because the traffic gets bad.”

Brown said he could not anticipate what time either concert would let out. He said this should be busiest single-day at the Coliseum Complex for the rest of the year.
