OPINION

We need health reform, but not from Democrats

Saturday, November 21, 2009
(Updated 3:00 am)

It is shocking to think how much the Democratic Party is out of touch with the American people. What is even worse is that they insult our intelligence by attempting to pass all of these bogus bills and say they will not raise taxes.

I believe the reason they’re rushing through all of them is because they know when more Americans find out what is in these bills (especially health care) there will be even more outrage than already.

We need reform, but not from a government with a history of bankrupting everything it get its hands on. I pay for my own insurance and will be one who would rather go to jail than take anything from this extremely corrupt government.

i'm very confused! if the democratic party is so "out of touch with the american people", how did obama get elected? do you plan to turn down your medicare benefits? or do you think this money comes from the "medicare fairy" rather than the "corrupt government"? i also would like to thank gwb for not being corrupt, not lying, and just being a fine role model for us all.

"how did obama get elected?"

That's easy. The people get frustrated by Bush, so they rush to something, anything, different (i.e. a democrat). They see Obama and think, “how nice to finally have a black president!”, disregarding his extreme left ideologies. Of course, had Obama been white he would have been ignored as too extreme, and we would now have Hillary as our president.

Yeah, but Sarah Palin was so great! People like her so much more than Obama . . . not!

Obama is actually a moderate. People voted for him and not Hilary because Hilary is a bitch (which in my view was a plus, but not in the minds of the party).

Mrs. Allan, I would gladly listen to your ideas, or ideas from the Republicans, if either of you had any. Clearly you don't, since you don't mention alternatives in your lte.

And FYI: the Democrats never promised not to raise taxes with health care reform. What they said was, is that reform would pay for itself. Not the same thing.

"Yeah, but Sarah Palin was so great! People like her so much more than Obama . . . not!"

Agreed - there was not a good republican option. I never thought I'd utter these words, but now I think I'd rather have Hillary than Obama.

'I never thought I'd utter these words, but now I think I'd rather have Hillary than Obama."

Given a choice between the two I'd have to agree. I don' think Hillary would have given the terrorist responsible for 9/11 a civilian trial a few blocks down from where the WTC stood.

There is hope, hope that the Obama supporters who bought into a young, good looking guy who can read beautifully from a teleprompter isn't what they had envisioned.

I am always amazed at Mr. danagain's almost word for word regurgitation of rightwing talk radio. Pat yourself on the back sir, as you almost nailed it verbatim from Sean Hannity.
Observation on the 9/11 NYC trial: Many who have been beating their gums about how patriotic they are, seem to now want to trash the Constitution and do secret military trials. Even Mayor Giuliani waxed euphoric when Massoui (sp?) was convicted in Virginia, but now he's joined with the Teabagger mentality, cowering in the corner over our system of justice...one he used to defend as a prosecutor.
Thank you again Mr. danagain for speaking power to punditry. (tongue firmly implanted in cheek)

Really rightwinger? Did Hannity say he'd rather have Hillary than Obama? If he did I missed that one. But jones did say he/she would rather have Hillary and that he/she didn't think he/she would never utter those words. Good deflection rightwinger, you fail to realize the luster is coming off for folks like jones. There will be more uttering those words as time passes. Glad to see you are listening to Hannity however, seriously.

Mr. danagain, here's a map for you on healthcare vote:
http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/34071223/ns/politics/
Pay close attention to the small electoral votes represented by the "Red South". Amazing how your obviously "idolized" pundits are so afraid of 'debate', and only interested in trying to embarrass the President.
And yes, your words on the 9/11 trials being held in NYC are almost word for word from this week's Sean Hannity Show. Again, kudos for your consistency.

Good deal, I'm glad they woke up former KKK Kleagle R.C. Byrd from his near death slumber and asked him to say "aye". My, my, my what happened in ME & ID? Glad you are watching Hannity, perhaps you can find the transcript that matches my post. Bonne chance!!

Obama ran on a platform of income tax relief for the middle class. It was a lie then and a lie now. If you confiscated all the income of the "rich" it would not cover the expense of this administration's fiscal irresponsibility. They knew it then and they know it now. The middle class will pay higher taxes, higher health insurance premiums, higher energy costs, while having their dollars devalued. They seem to be waking up ---don't know if it will be in time to prevent this healthcare disaster.

The healthcare reform was initially pitched by democrats as cost savings.

And it will be. Medicare reform in 1986 saved billions of dollars. Health care reform now will do the same thing.

"Medicare reform in 1986 saved billions of dollars. Health care reform now will do the same thing."

Obama said so.

Amazing how many will buy anything these clowns in DC come up with.

Medicare fraud is currently a $60 BILLION A YEAR business. According to Rush LImbaugh? No, according to CBS News.

"Medicare fraud is currently a $60 BILLION A YEAR business. According to Rush LImbaugh? No, according to CBS News"

The fraud is committed by the free market business people not government bureaucrats.

Also the Medicare administration ( claims etc ) is out sourced to private companies
like Aetna etc.

Dan you never seem to get it right

Hey David, who collects the taxes for Medicare, oversees the program, doles out the benefits and is ultimately responsible for it? Hmmmm....give you a hint.....the govt. Nice try.

But with this insurance plan I believe you don't have to buy it until you get sick, just pay a small penalty. I think I'll cancel my car insurance and reinstate it once I have an accident.

BS.

You're over simplifying it.
However that works for fooling people.
Or maybe you really are that stupid.

No.

I stand by what I said dan.

The crooks are American business people.
Who rip off our government
Not the Government Bureaucrats,

The Haliburtons

Maybe you are cheating the government.
Whats your product.

You can't blame the bank tellers for the bank robberies.

It is outsourced to the Aetnas of the world.

If anyone is out of touch with the American people, it is you Mary Allan and all the naysayers who post here. Like you, they keep saying the American people when they really mean most repubs and some independents. Sure, some demos are opposed to it just as some repubs are for it. However, it is strange to me, no matter where I go in or out of NC, the overwhelming majority favor some kind of government option. Like faux news, something is amiss but it's not the majority of the American people. Unfortunately, some rely on "polls" that change as the time does, polls that are skewered to show whatever the pollster want them to show.

Yvonne, I have always respected your stance on illegals. They suck. Our government has accommodated these criminals by bestowing on them the best of medical care. We now have "press one for English," park in your yard and smack a pinata all night fiestas, the lowering of property values of entire neighborhoods, clog Wal-Mart and hock phlegm on the cart handles syndrome, gangs, uninsured motorists, diseases from their swine girlfriends, etc. If this is how our government handles illegal immigration, how much worse will they handle health care? Let's get them to clean up these other problems and let them play doctor on the legal citizenry after that.

It is apparent that we talk to different people, as I have yet to talk to one single person who wants the "guvmint option".
As far as polls are concerned, I think most polls show this is not what "most people" want, only what is wanted by the far left, who ignore what most want.

Yvonne

November 22, 2009 - 12:09 am EST

ghost,

No one I know wants a "guvmint program" either as no one I know talks like that. It is only the lazy, disgruntled repubs who use that kind of language. And why should any of us give any credence to folks too lazy to pronounce (type) government?

There seems to be trouble in paradise Ms. Allan. The lunatics now run the assylum---read "Teabaggers".
Of course there are always moments that make laughter un stoppable. They 'used' Joe the Plumber and now he's telling them what to do. God love him!

"The lunatics now run the asylum..."

That aptly describes the current congress. Check out their approval ratings, not a single poll where more approve than disapprove.

As one of the fellows who posts here regularly said of you, "You really aren't very smart".

It may have been Ronald Reagan, but someone once put it succinctly saying, "Everyone hates Congress but loves their congressman". No different today. Real question is how small will the GOP get before it either explodes or reinvents itself.
Tip of the hat to you though, for at least trying to appear smarter.

Ms. Allen, the democrats are not out of touch with their liberal supporters and it's time to seriously consider creating a communist state within our own borders and let them tax themselves into the grave and leave the rest of us alone.

Those who are incapable of handling their own affairs and are constantly turning to government to handle them for them are a drag on a free society and should be given the chance to live without the responsibilities that come with self reliance.
