As you explore the beautiful fall foliage throughout the parks of Greensboro, come to the Kathleen Clay Edwards Family Branch Library in the 98-acre suburban oasis of Price Park.

After hiking the trails, scrape off your boots and visit the library. In addition to the children’s and adult popular collections, the library has a large selection of materials related to the environment and nature with a particular focus on plants and animals native to the Carolinas.

If you want to “go green,” check out some of our guides for sustainable living.

This spring, the library will join the T. Gilbert Pearson Audubon Society and Greensboro Parks and Recreation to offer BioBlitz, a program designed for adults interested in taking an inventory of flora and fauna in Price Park.

On May 15, experts in natural sciences such as ornithology and herpetology will lead adults through this hands-on inventory.

Children will have an opportunity to participate in a Kids’ BioBlitz on April 10 at the library’s Earth Day events.
For even more BioBlitz fun, the library is offering ongoing children’s nature programs January through May. Children participating in those programs can earn their Junior Naturalist certificate.

For more information, visit the BioBlitz link at www.tgpearson audubon.org/bioblitz.htm.

You don’t have to wait until spring to explore the outdoors in the Triad. You can come to the library and check out the book “Circling Home” as a guide. The writer, John Lane, used a topographical map of where he lived and then, with an old saucer, traced a circle with a one-mile radius and began to explore the history and biodiversity of his surroundings.

Another option to increase your wildlife observation is to develop a backyard wildlife habitat. Check out the book “Kids’ Easy-to-Create Wildlife Habitats” by Emily Stetson and begin a fun adventure for your family as you attract more biodiversity to your own backyard.

The Kathleen Clay Edwards Library offers all sorts of programs and resources to help you become more familiar with nature.

Check out a backpack with field guides, binoculars and other tools to help you explore Price Park or your own backyard. The backpacks were created for all ages of nature lovers, from preschoolers to adults.
If you or your children have an interest in nature or simply a desire to become more aware of our environment, the best place to start is the Kathleen Clay Edwards Library at 1420 Price Park Road.
