HIGH POINT — A raccoon found on Blain Street has tested positive for the rabies virus.
This is the 11th reported case of rabies in Guilford County this year.
The raccoon had contact with one dog, which was not current on its rabies vaccine.
North Carolina law requires that all domestic pets must be vaccinated against rabies, even if they stay inside exclusively.
The Guilford County Department of Public Health recommends that barnyard animals such as goats, horses and cows be vaccinated against rabies as well.
