Regarding the construction of an aquatic center (editorial, Nov. 14): Kudos to the News & Record for suggesting that it would be unwise to stay the current course. Clearly the projected $12 million price tag was woefully underestimated from day one. But supporters of the project are at it again.
We are “assured” the facility will yield millions for the city, but there is absolutely no evidence of a comprehensive economic impact study — just “estimates” that appear to have been pulled out of the air and might generously be labeled excessive.
And let’s not forget those pesky operating expenses, or that Greensboro will have plenty of competition in attracting major swim meets from already existing facilities in the state.
