ATLANTIC BEACH (AP) — At least one person was injured after a boat hit a high-rise bridge on the North Carolina coast.

The Daily News of Jacksonville reported the boat with three people on board hit a piling on the bridge between Atlantic Beach and Morehead City about 5 p.m. Tuesday.

The Atlantic Beach Fire Department said one person on the 20-foot boat was flown to a hospital for treatment. The names of the people on the boat were not available.

Ensign Caleb Peacock says the Coast Guard sent a helicopter and rescue boat. Emergency personnel also worked from the top of the bridge.

Police say one lane on the bridge was closed to give crews room to work, but the bridge was not damaged and remained open to traffic.
