Advance golfer wins city event

PGA pro Walter Hall captured the Greensboro Carolinas PGA Senior Open, held at Greensboro Country Club's Irving Park Course in Greensboro. The Advance native and former member of the Champions Tour had the low rounds on both days. Bob Boyd of Wilmington and Todd Smith of Matthews, S.C., finished one stroke back.

HARRIS TEETER SENIOR AM: Kim Mansfield of High Point holds the lead in the Harris Teeter Senior Amateur Tour Championship in Southern Pines.

BASEBALL

DUKE: Duke has reached an agreement with the Durham Bulls to play 18 home games in 2010 at the Durham Bulls Athletic Park, home of the city's Triple-A team.

RECRUITING

HIGH POINT: Three men's basketball players have signed with High Point: guard Justin Cheek of Charlotte, forward Travis Elliott of Lauderdale Lakes, Fla., and center Georges Massoda of Forsyth Country Day.

UNCG: Apex golfer product Andy Knox has signed a National Letter of Intent to UNCG.

ELON: Sophomore Josh Bonney is the Southern Conference men's basketball player of the week.

GUILFORD: Derick Kosgei of the cross country team is the Guilford student-athlete of the week.

GREENSBORO COLLEGE: Tessa Hall and Andreas Platt are Greensboro College's student athletes of the month.
