JP Looney’s Sports Bar drew a $7,000 fine by the North Carolina Alcoholic Beverage Control Commission in connection with an underage drinking violation.
According to a spokeswoman for the commission, the restaurant had been facing a $3,500 fine and a five-day suspension of its license to sell alcohol in connection with its third ABC violation in the past three years.
In a decision handed down Tuesday morning, the restaurant agreed to pay double the fine in order to avoid the suspension, according to the spokeswoman for the commission and the restaurant’s lawyer, Don Vaughan of Greensboro. Vaughan said the fine stemmed from a citation issued in March.
“They serve about 50,000 customers a month and have had three violations since 2006,” Vaughan said.
