RALEIGH (AP) — Lawyers for a disgraced former state legislator have gone back to court seeking to overturn his conviction for obstruction of justice.

The News & Observer of Raleigh reported today that a lawyer for former Rep. Thomas Wright told a three-judge state Court of Appeals panel his guilty verdict last year was not supported by law.

Wright is appealing his obstruction conviction and sentence of up to eight months. Investigators say the Wilmington Democrat failed to report $150,000 in campaign donations and kept most of it for himself.

The appeals court earlier this month upheld Wright's conviction on three felony counts of obtaining property under false pretenses. Wright is serving six to eight years for those convictions.

Why would you assume that your breaking the law should be viewed as different than any other criminal. Like the saying, If you can't do the time, don't do the crime.( Wright? ) You are no better than any other criminal you helped write the laws for. Would you have been willing to over turn the sentence for the same crime if it had been just a regular joe. NOPE you would not have. So do your time, and sit on your butt and keep your mouth shut. And becareful not to drop your soap.
