WINSTON-SALEM — A tractor-trailer hauling seven passenger vehicles burned on the side of a highway Monday night.

No injuries were reported in the fire, which was reported at 9:47 p.m. Monday along westbound Interstate 40 at Thomasville Road.

The Winston-Salem Fire Department said firefighters encountered heavy smoke and fire coming from the trailer. They needed an hour and 15 minutes to bring the blaze under control.

Fire investigator said the truck's brakes locked up and caused the rear wheels to catch on fire. The fire in the wheels spread to the vehicles on the trailer.
