OPINION

Bill goes too far, not far enough in some areas

Tuesday, November 17, 2009
(Updated 3:05 am)

I am disappointed in U.S. Rep. Brad Miller’s vote in favor of HR 3692. Even though the Obama administration says it was passed by a bipartisan majority, that is not accurate; only one Republican voted in favor of the bill.

The bill narrowly passed the “majority” vote of 218 by two votes. Congress can do better by not cutting Medicare benefits on senior citizens, and by addressing in the bill the ability of companies to sell policies across state lines to give us more choice. Also, why won’t they address tort reform?

I hope Rep. Miller will consider amending the present bill to deal with these issues before the second vote.

The House did not vote to cut Medicare benefits on senior citizens. It did vote to cut Medicare payments to big insurance companies who now charge 15 percent more than the government to provide the same services. It is strange how the right wing yammers about cutting waste, fraud, and abuse in government until someone actually tries to do something about it!

Obviously, miktay, Nancy has been listening to right winged talk radio rather than actually check things out.

Anyone having problems getting a post? If I click "Opinion" and the "Letters to the Editor" it goes to a news page. If I click "Opinion" then "Opinion Home" and then click on the letter title it works.

You're welcome truman. Then that must mean the score for significant, positive contributions is Dan = 1, truman = 0.

Had trouble myself. I "searched" for the title of each LTTE, clicked on each result to get to the letter.

I guess the N&R is doing it's part for "change". This is the second day in a row that my Bookmark takes me to the ltte section (as always) but when I click on "read more", I get the front page of the N&R. Of course, every few weeks some kind of glitch shows up with regard to the ltte blog.
