KERNERSVILLE -- High Point Central edged Glenn by a single point Friday night, but it's hard to say the Bison dodged anything. Contact was, in fact, the central issue.

Roger Greene's rejection of an extra point with 1:10 left in the third quarter ultimately delivered the Bison a 14-13 victory in a first-round 4-A playoff game. A full hour after the fact, few Central players even knew who had done it. And that, coach Wayne Jones said, was entirely appropriate.

"I told them that it wasn't going to be about any single individual," said. "It's about us."

Drew Adams connected twice with Akeem Langham in a critical segment of the third quarter for the Bison. The first hook-up was good for a 12-yard score, and the second, a 39-yard play, set up Al-daquan Teasley's plunge to give the Bison a 14-7 lead.

The Bobcats (8-4) responded quickly when Josh Hawkins, who carried 35 times for 153 yards on the night, capped a drive with a 4-yard scoring run. But Greene elevated and swatted Mitchell Tomlinson's extra point, and Central retained the advantage.

The Bison (9-3) held on in a frantic and final 2 minutes.

After Cameron Kapec barely missed a 31-yard field-goal attempt for the Bobcats, Glenn held and forced a punt. With one timeout left, the Bobcats got to the High Point Central 30 with 11 seconds to play.

Quarterback Tajvio Walker scrambled out of trouble, but his desperate dash to avoid the rush left him with no choice but to throw one to the back of the end zone. The ball, defenders and receivers fell to the ground as time expired.

Bobcats coach Dickie Cline hoped for an interference call but had to witness the end of his team's season instead.

"The thing that was so rewarding about this team was its resiliency," Cline said.

Adams went 12-for-18 for 136 yards for the Bison, which advanced to play the winner of tonight's Dudley-Smith game, postponed from Friday.
