On Nov. 7, we were fortunate enough to experience the first passing of the Affordable Health Care for America Act. As a country, we are behind so many others that have had universal health care for years. Nevertheless, the House of Representatives made history by passing H.R. 3962.
The representatives who voted for this bill definitely used their consciences as their guide and avoided the pressures from the insurance lobbyists. Unfortunately, Howard Coble did not vote for the bill and caved under the lobbying pressure.
I know many people who called Mr. Coble’s office and asked him to vote for the bill. I was one of them. He does have another chance to reconsider and support the final House vote.
I see Howard as a reasonable person who certainly does stay in touch with his constituents and is very available. I can only hope that he has the ability to take off the blinders that won’t allow him to see how this bill will provide Americans with more secure and stable coverage, help those with pre-existing conditions and cover those who have no insurance, lower costs for families and businesses and still begin to reduce the deficit.
