Let’s hope Coble listens to reason on health care

Saturday, November 14, 2009
(Updated 3:00 am)

On Nov. 7, we were fortunate enough to experience the first passing of the Affordable Health Care for America Act. As a country, we are behind so many others that have had universal health care for years. Nevertheless, the House of Representatives made history by passing H.R. 3962.

The representatives who voted for this bill definitely used their consciences as their guide and avoided the pressures from the insurance lobbyists. Unfortunately, Howard Coble did not vote for the bill and caved under the lobbying pressure.

I know many people who called Mr. Coble’s office and asked him to vote for the bill. I was one of them. He does have another chance to reconsider and support the final House vote.

I see Howard as a reasonable person who certainly does stay in touch with his constituents and is very available. I can only hope that he has the ability to take off the blinders that won’t allow him to see how this bill will provide Americans with more secure and stable coverage, help those with pre-existing conditions and cover those who have no insurance, lower costs for families and businesses and still begin to reduce the deficit.

Why is it that when a republican votes against a welfare bill they are 'in lockstep' and have 'caved in to the powerful lobbyists', while all dimocrats who vote in unison for a welfare state expansion act like this healthkaya turkey is considered to have independent thought and following their intuition as to what's best for the country?

I know lots of people who wrote and called Coble, urging him to vote against the welfare expansion bill. I did so myself.

Mr. neocon,
It is a rare day indeed when Mr. Coble votes outside of what John "tanning bed" Boehner tells him. I've known Howard for years and think that at his advanced age, he could actually continue to be re-elected by being an independent statesman rather than another 'yes man' for the GOP. Will he? Probably not.

I may have missed it, but was there an answer to the question: 'Why are republicans 'in lockstep' when they vote against a welfare bill that will provide for those incapable of managing their own affairs, and when the dimocrats vote in unison, they are 'independent thinkers' in your reply? Was there? Probably not.

Ms. Dameron, surely Howard Coble must be aware that the current health care reform bills include provisions that impact on lowering health care prices. And surely Coble knows that government sponsored health insurance options (like Medicare) have structured differences that makes them less expensive than private insurance! So what's Coble's problem? Well, I suspect "rightwingnemesis" identified it quite accurately in his post here yesterday, as follows: "What is absured is that someone would pat Howard Coble on the back for being a puppet of John Boehner. Nothing more, nothing less." It's true! Seriously.

".....to see how this bill will provide Americans with more secure and stable coverage, help those with pre-existing conditions and cover those who have no insurance, lower costs for families and businesses and still begin to reduce the deficit."

Anyone who thinks this massive expansion of govt. is going to reduce a deficit is delusional. Repeat after me Ms. Julie Dameron.....mmmmm mmmmmm mmmmmm Barack Hussein Obama!!

Mr. xeno10,
Mr. danagain "may" be intelligent, but his ideas expressed here are always hollow and usually a repetition of the previous day's talk radio/tv. What amazes me is his continued exhibition of "not knowing" and his partisan talking points. I certainly wish him well and would love to see his posts grow some depth.

Are you by any chance kin to truman? You have the same smooth civil tone in your comments.

Dan appears to be smart enough to provide for himself and his family.

Can't say the same for those who must lobby government to provide health care for them.

Mr. neocon,
While you are an unapologetic racist, you do seem to search for more information to fortify your position as it pertains politics than Mr. danagain does. Mr. danagain is an interesting study as he needs to feel important but doesn't exactly know why he would deserve it.
"Can't say the same for those who must lobby government to provide health care for them"--What exactly are you saying here? I don't believe I had to surrender my rights of free speech but evidently you see a problem there. How is a monopoly a virtue of 'free market' economics? Surely you do not believe that.

..."as he needs to feel important"

I find this absolutely hilarious coming from one who, in his/her first post on this forum, stood up in the public square and told everyone how intelligent they were and how 'one bloke' was justified in stating that danagain and myself were 'not too bright' and they were simpletons regurgitating what the right wing pundits on radio and tv espoused the day before. About two weeks ago I was watching one of the Sunday morning talk shows that featured a liberal Obot espousing the glorious bennies of His Highness' healthkaya package and she opined that the reason Detroit had lost all the automotive industry was because they had "moved to Canada because Canada had free health care". This show was on at 900:am. Around 10:00 or 10:15 am, I logged on to this blog and low and behold, there was a lte praising Obamacare, and what do I see (?)...'rightwingnemesis' opining that " the reason Detroit had lost all the automotive industry was because they had moved to Canada because Canada had free health care".

And you have the gall to come here and accuse others of 'regurgitating' what the pundits.say? IMO, you are little more that a hypocritical blowhard parrot, incapable of handling life's ups and downs, and must turn to government to smooth things over for you. And you do this under the guise of 'helping other people who can't afford health care'. I think your main concern is with the well being of Mr./Ms. 'rightwingnemesis' and you lack the guts to say so. Just like all the other sheep who are pining for some o dat Obamacare.

Kudos Neo, looks like you searched for more information to fortify your position than me.

Holier than thou elitists easily display their insecurities, Demon Deacon did it daily as does rightwinger.

Damn, that is an amazing bill, or would be if were to actually do all of those things, which it won't!
