A local meal-assembly company will do its part to help breast cancer survivors later this month.
Last month, Let’s Dish! owners Matt and Leigh Yates participated in the Pink Dish! Campaign to support Breast Cancer Awareness Month.
“We’re certainly advocates of donating to breast cancer research, but with this, (we) get to see the people we’re helping,” Matt Yates said.
Let’s Dish! is a meal-assembly company where customers can come in and assemble and purchase or simply purchase prepackaged meals.
The meals come with all ingredients and spices. The only thing left to do is cook.
“It lowers the stress of dinner; there’s no planning, shopping or chopping,” employee Diane Spencer said.
During October, Let’s Dish! franchises accepted donations and ran promotions to raise money for local cancer patients and their families. The Greensboro store will give away about $500 in meals to local survivors.
“They’re going to get eight meals that will serve two to three people each,” Spencer said.
Family members and friends submitted survivors’ stories via the Let’s Dish! Web site.
“They get to come in and select meals from our November menu,” Spencer said.
Let’s Dish! is also hosting a benefit for one of the meal recipients.
Single mom Laurie Allen is battling breast cancer for the second time.
Through February, customers who wish to help with this fundraiser can reserve a time to “dish” their meals and use the promotional code “Laurie” or attend Laurie’s party on Dec. 6.
“Ten percent of the proceeds will go to her,” Spencer said.
These Dish! for a Cause events are available for any group or
organization looking to raise money.
Pink Dish! and Allen’s events hit home for the Yateses.
Matt Yates’ mother died after a battle with cervical cancer, Spencer said.
“That made them much more sensitive to the issues that people have to deal with,” she said.
Though the Pink Dish! promotion is over, Yates said he’s happy to continue helping if there is a demand.
“We’d be happy to sponsor people if people would like to come in and donate meals,” he said.
