LEXINGTON — A third candidate is getting into the Republican sheriff's race in Davidson County.
Terry Price, a retired state highway patrolman who sought the post three years ago, said Thursday he'll seek the Republican sheriff's nomination in the May 4 party primary.
He'll face current sheriff David Grice and former sheriff Gerald Hege, both of whom have said they will run for office. The candidate filing period opens in February.
Price finished second in the 2006 Republican primary to Grice, who won the six-candidate primary with 47 percent of the vote. Price received 37 percent of the primary vote three years ago.
Grice was appointed sheriff in 2004 after Hege resigned after he pleaded guilty to two counts of obstruction of justice, a felony.
After retiring in October 2005, Price became active in Davidson County Republican politics. He served as vice chairman of the county Republican Party for two years and now is vice chairman of the 12th District Republican Party.He has lived in the county since 1991 and served in the Highway Patrol for 32 years.
Meanwhile, a former reporter at WGHP-8 said she will run as a Republican for a seat on the Davidson County Board of Commissioners next year.
Caron Myers will make her first bid for public office after nine years with the High Point television station. She is currently the executive director of Davidson County Cancer Services. Myers has lived in the county for 20 years.
Voters will fill four of the seven Board of Commissioners seats next year. Three of the seats are held by Republican incumbents.
