A Dillard Elementary School student recently got a letter from President Barack Obama about a mutual friend, “Flat Stanley.”
Stanley, it seems, spent some time with the president at the White House.
The student, Kristopher Martin, was in Lisa Brame’s second-grade class last year and the class read the book “Flat Stanley,” which is about a boy who is flattened when a bulletin board falls on him.
As part of a class assignment, each student made his own Stanley and mailed it and a letter to a person of their choice.
The letter described the book and asked the person to talk about their time spent with Flat Stanley.
Kristopher sent Stanley to the White House.
He got a letter signed by Obama and dated Sept. 30. In it, the president said, “Flat Stanley was engaging, interested, and showed up to the White House each morning with a pencil in hand, ready to learn. It was a pleasure to have him here. As I send him back to you, I urge you to bring that same thirst for knowledge to your classroom and passion for serving others to your community. Together, we will make America even better in the years to come.”
The president also sent Kristopher a photo of himself and the Obama family dog, Bo.
