GREENSBORO — Closing arguments are expected to begin Thursday in the case of a man accused of fatally shooting a 23-year-old woman in 2008.
Christon Eugene Tucker, 29, opted against testifying in his defense on Tuesday afternoon.
He is charged in the Feb. 12, 2008, killing of Tiffany Ann Knight at her residence at Deerwood Meadows Apartments on Old Oak Ridge Road.
Knight’s body was found by her then 4-year-old daughter. The girl alerted a neighbor, who called authorities.
The trial has lasted six days so far. Testimony from neighbors and acquaintances of Knight indicate she had a sexual relationship with Tucker.
Detective Tony Hinson, the lead detective on the case, testified that a series of text messages between the two led to Tucker’s arrest. The messages, which were sent in the hours leading up to Knight’s death, indicated an argument and threats over money and drugs. Hinson also testified a neighbor he interviewed stated she saw Tucker place a gun to Knight’s head a week before her death.
On Monday, an acquaintance of Tucker’s — Catrina Zimmerman — testified that Tucker confessed to her that he killed Knight.
Tucker turned himself in to authorities 10 days after Knight’s body was found.
He faces charges of first-degree murder, habitual felon and possession of a firearm by a felon.
The trial is set to resume at 9:30 a.m. Thursday and will likely go to the jury by the end of the day. Court is closed today for Veterans Day.
