HIGH POINT 93, JOHNSON & WALES 25: Sophomore Nick Barbour had 17 points, and redshirt freshman Corey Law recorded a double-double with 11 points and 10 rebounds to help lead the High Point men to a dominating 93-25 win over Johnson & Wales in exhibition action Tuesday at the Millis Center.
The Panthers had six players in double figures in scoring: Barbour, Law, David Campbell (14), Cruz Daniels (13), Jairus Simms (13) and Eugene Harris (11). Daniels and Campbell also had seven rebounds each and Daniels blocked four shots.
CHARLOTTE: forward An'Juan Wilderness will miss two to four weeks with a strained left calf, while freshman guard Gokhan Sirin will serve a one-game suspension in Friday's season opener.
The 49ers are also concerned about starting point guard DiJuan Harris, whose status against UNC-Asheville is uncertain because of a sprained right ankle.
A native of Turkey, Sirin was suspended by the NCAA Tuesday for participating with a professional club team.
Charlotte did get some good news. Redshirt freshman Shamarr Bowden is probable after missing much of the preseason with a dislocated left shoulder.
WOMEN
NORTH CAROLINA 121, CARSON-NEWMAN 52: Freshman Krista Gross led all scorers with 16 points, and sophomore Laura Broomfield had a double-double with 14 points and 11 boards in just 15 minutesat the Dean E. Smith Center.
The Tar Heels shot 53.6 percent from the field, forced 34 turnovers and had a 66-33 rebound edge.
