GREENSBORO - Retired U.S. Supreme Court Justice Sandra Day O'Connor has canceled two talks in Greensboro on Wednesday to be at her ailing husband's side, according to officials at the Elon University School of Law.
O'Connor, who was the nation's first female Supreme Court Justice, was scheduled to speak to Elon law students Wednesday and to be the keynote speaker at the annual luncheon of the Community Foundation of Greater Greensboro.
Her husband, Jay O’Connor III, reportedly has been battling Alzheimer’s disease for several years.
Elon hopes to reschedule the talk for another time, officials said in a statement Tuesday.
