Miller did right thing in voting for reform bill

Wednesday, November 11, 2009
(Updated 3:00 am)

I’d like to thank U.S. Rep. Brad Miller for voting to pass the House’s health care reform bill, HR 3962. Right now my daughter is without health insurance. One of her asthma medicines costs $203.
I lived in England for six years and greatly appreciated the national health care I received there.

No one should have to go without essential medicines because they cannot pay for them.

Ms. Casey, I agree "no one should have to go without essential medicines because they cannot pay for them." I believe it is society's responsibility to insure that certain basic needs are met for everyone e.g., adequate food, education, and health care. And it's government's job to make sure that these responsibilities are met! Yes! Seriously. (I applaud Congressman Miller's vote!)

truman, what about personal responsibilities, do they have any part in one's life?
The more you depend on guvmint, the more you have to depend on guvmint!

Yes Miller also voted to fund abortions on the tax payers money.
Miller also voted to cut medicare payments, when even now some doctors do not take medicare patients.
He also voted to have no caps on lawyer fess and punitive damages.
So why be a doctor and have limited wages, when you can be a lawyer and make buckets of money.
Xeno, who pays for this?
See those hard working couples who have to pay their own way in life?
They are the ones.
Xeno ever heard of getting a job, and helping yourself out?

Mr. Johnson, I simply must say that you conistently lack a wry and accurate voice for common sense and reason. Seriously.

Coming from you I do not expect your opinion to get much credence from Mr Johnson.. You do realize you are a lazy, socialist ass don't you Truman.

I had breakfast yesterday with a gentleman who lived thru the Holocaust. He left Germany when he was 17 years old and came to the US. He had $12 in his pocket when he arrived. He worked hard and did well in the business world. Once a year he and some childhood friends meet in different countries for a vacation. He said health care in the US always comes up as a topic of discussion. He also said the rest of the world is laughing at and shaking their heads in amazement that the US can find the money to support needless wars but does not support some kind of universal health care for its citizens. I responded that what amazes me is some of the people in the US whine about universal health care not realizing that we already have a form of it, we just don't call it that. The ignorance about this subject is astounding. And what is more worrisome is that so many people are willing to share that ignorance.

This ignorance in no doubt the fault of George W. Bush.

I wonder how many of these countries they vacation in have extremely low defense budgets because WE take care of that little detail for them? Or how many of those contries receive foreign aide from us? I wonder how many of those countries might yet be under German or Soviet control if not for us? I wonder if they ever visit Israel?

I wonder if those topics ever come up on their reunions?

My family helped chase Adolph across Europe.
Spent time in German POW camp.
They supported government involvement since FDR.

Oh

Just in passing.

If the Russians had not held on the eastern front ( lost millions )
Stalingrad.
The Germans might have won.

Thats just a fact.
Things are a lot more complicated than you understand.

Strange that someone who escaped a socialist country like Germany would want the same here in America.

And to think that you use up perfectly good oxygen.

firerescuechick

That's the problem though Sawdust......I don't think truman is using any oxygen. Obviously, his brain isn't functioning properly which is most likely a result of breathing in something other than oxygen.....I'm thinking government-funded laughing gas....It's the only logical explanation.

Mandatory psychological test for Xeno/Truman since he is obviously a crook using the federal government to take money from people that earn it and give it to people that do not.

One of H. L. Mencken's quotes went like this, "A newspaper is a device for making the ignorant more ignorant and the crazy crazier".

Here's an idea! Instead of restructuring the entire health care industry, regulate the health insurance companies and the pharmaceutical industries that charge an arm and a leg. I deal with the "unfortunate" every day and see these folks who can't afford rent and live in state and city-run housing for $1 a day, yet have 62 inch TV's in their free living rooms and 22 inch chrome wheels on their cars, and have no money for insurance but always enough money for cigarettes and pot. Here's another idea! Start teaching folks how to manage money, and let them know the future generations are not going to support them as we have in the past. Tell them to start taking better care of themselves, instead of eating, drinking, and drugging themselves away.

I make my money, I save it, I spend it wisely. I work hard, too many don't work at all, and when they do, they blow their cash on frivolous items. I say enough is enough. I'm all for regulating those industries, but I won't stand for this. At some point these folks are going to have to learn to take care of themselves, because I'm tired of doing it for them.

Are you suggesting that people actually practice personal responsibility?
What a mean spirited attitude you display.
What would happen to our huge guvmint, if they didn't have millions to depend on them?

Sawdust

Completely contrary to the philosophy of Barack Hussein Obama.

rahrah

November 12, 2009 - 2:33 am EST

No, I'd imagine that BO's philosophy includes personal responsibility, right along with societal responsibility. I'd also imagine that your own philosophy includes these in some form and that the biggest difference betwixt the two of you appears in how you believe the latter be implemented...and I'd bet that, more often than not, BO's strategies fall closer to yours than you'd ever admit.

truth

November 13, 2009 - 9:30 am EST

BO's philosophy might include personal responsibility but his give-away and handouts encourage the opposite.

Anyone ever notice that 99.9% of the letters written to the N&R supporting this mammoth health care debacle are women?

Yvonne

November 11, 2009 - 2:29 pm EST

Anyone ever notice that 99.9% of the negative responses are men? Ever notice that 99.9999% of the misinformation, lies, unsupported statements and deliberate attempts to twist one's meaning is perpetrated by men? Ever notice most who post on this blog are men? Why do you suppose that is the fact here?

If by negative you mean opposed to a government take over of health care then yes I have noticed. If by misinformation I'm not sure since I am incredibly informed and able to smash morons with facts who support this bill. Yes I have noticed most of the people that blog here are men. Not sure why that is the case, but I am sure if tried to explain why that is the case you would call me a sexist Yvonne. You really need to calm down Yvonne.
