UNC's Draughn fractures scapula, out for the season

North Carolina tailback Shaun Draughn fractured his left shoulder blade in the team's game against Duke and will miss the rest of the season.

Draughn was hurt on the first play from scrimmage on Saturday. He was replaced by Ryan Houston, who rushed for 164 yards on 37 carries to lead the Tar Heels to a 19-6 victory over the Blue Devils.

The Tarboro, native started all nine games this season and is UNC's leading rusher with 567 yards on 124 carries. Draughn ranks seventh in the ACC with 63.0 yards per game.

PONDER OUT: Florida State says quarterback Christian Ponder has a separated right shoulder and will miss Sunday's game against Wake Forest.

Ponder injured the shoulder of his throwing arm while making a tackle in the fourth quarter of Saturday's 40-24 loss to Clemson. Florida State is 4-5.

Redshirt freshman E.J. Manuel is expected to replace Ponder and would be making his first career start. Manuel has played in two games this season, completing 1 of 2 passes for 4 yards.

BCS: All those blowouts have carried TCU to unprecedented heights, giving the Horned Frogs hope -- however slim -- of becoming the first BCS buster to break into the national championship game.

TCU took over fourth place in the Bowl Championship Series standings behind Florida, Alabama and Texas. It's the highest BCS ranking ever for a team from a conference without an automatic bid to the big-money bowl games. No potential BCS buster had ever done better than sixth in the BCS standings.
