I went to the Reidsville game friday night and they put on a show, I look for the Rams to go all the way again and i hope they do just for all those Rockingham County Cougers and they rest of the haters in Rockingham County, don't hate on the Rams just because they can beat everybody in the rest of the county even if you combined the other three schools together!!! GO RAMS

I agree with you, Mr. Softball27. Reidsville puts on a show and I wish them all the best in the playoffs. I played at Rockingham many years ago - the only years they ever won and I hope Rockingham wakes up and sees that Reidsville has what it takes to win. Rockingham has had some good players but is still missing the main ingredient - a good coach! Lin Stadler needs to be fired so they can move on. He has had a good 7-8 years to do something and has yet to do it. I can quote him every week after they lose - "We played hard but were just outmanned, blah, blah, blah!" How about just say the coaching stunk and it's the coaches fault they can't win! Hey, Stadler - how about quitting for the sake of all of the Rockingham fans and then go watch a real team with some real coaches - the Reidsville Rams!

How on Gods green earth did Reidsville wind up with a 3 seed when they've been ranked no. 1 all year?

mydogcleo

December 4, 2009 - 11:33 pm EST

There were three undefeated teams - Reidsville, SW Edgecombe, and the team who won the number one seed. The seeds were determined by a coin toss. Reidsville was ranked number one in the 2A division but got a bad coin toss.

mr.football

November 9, 2009 - 4:46 pm EST

Ragsdale is a 3 seed wow!! They beat Dudley and they are a 2 seed. This is a joke and I like Dudley.

Jesta Bouie-Lele

November 11, 2009 - 8:03 pm EST

Thanks but the reason why they won the game was because the officials could not see and they took a touchdown back frrom Dudley that was good. We won back to back State in 3A and this year will be a #3 in the new confernce.

Pam

November 12, 2009 - 12:20 pm EST

Sounds like sour grapes from someone who didn't like seeing their team get beat. Ragsdale won fair & square - accept it and move on.

Pam

November 12, 2009 - 12:19 pm EST

I agree mr. football - Ragsdale is a better team than that and should have been ranked better than 3. It stinks that they can't get the respect they deserve for a stellar year, but I believe they will prove themselves in the playoffs, even if they have to beat Dudley again.

willijs8

November 10, 2009 - 8:55 am EST

As far as the Reidsville seeding, since there were three 11-0 teams, them I believe it came down to a coin toss. So its just the luck of the draw. As far as Dudley, I couldn't explain that one and I went and like Dudley.

TOTHE POINT

November 11, 2009 - 11:51 pm EST

Come on.... the Dudley matchup is so obvious. There is more money in a Smith -v- Dudley matchup in the first round.

willijs8

November 12, 2009 - 2:04 pm EST

You know what, you're right. The Dudley Smith game will generate a lot more money. If you look at it too this sets up for Ragsdale and Dudley to play again, winner goes to the STATE CHAMPIONSHIP. That game alone would generate more money for each school and the county than if Ragsdale were #1 and the two met for the state championship. They also probably don't want two schools so close to each other playing one another for the state championship.
In the end.....It's all about the money!!!!

willijs8

November 12, 2009 - 2:08 pm EST

Hold up, Im wrong. Ragsdale and Dudley are in the same region on the same side, they will play in the semi-finals if they both get that far. Also I forgot to add that the NCHSAA is also trying to reduce travel time for each team, which will result in more revenue.

johnking

November 13, 2009 - 1:33 pm EST

that's the whole fun thing about the playoffs, traveling across the state to play different teams. The only thing was back when I was in school, the playoffs in NC were fun because the games were competitive. Yea the state wants to generate more money, but people will travel to see two good teams play, they won't travel to see a team with a 3-8 record go up against a powerhouse. Please return the playoffs back to normal format NCHSAA

John Newsom

November 13, 2009 - 7:27 am EST

Pam (and others): The No. 3 seed for Ragsdale (and Dudley and Reidsville) has nothing to do with respect and everything to do with the convoluted way the NCHSAA does the seeding. Ed Hardin covers the topic in today's N&R. ("Coaches can only blame themselves for H.S. playoffs mess")

That said, I suppose this beats the back-room alternative of having, say, No. 2 Ragsdale and No. 7 Dudley meeting in the first round tonight. And that said, wait 'till basketball season, when tournament seedings are based on a conference rotation that's maybe more confusing than this.

I have to admit that I wasn't sure how the local schools would do moving up to 4-A this season. So far, I've been pleasantly surprised. Good luck to everyone this weekend.

teams moving up to 4A has nothing to do with how good they are or how well we should expect them to do. Schools are classified according to how many students they have. There are 1A and 2A school across the state that would blow 4A schools out the water.

John Newsom

November 13, 2009 - 1:51 pm EST

That's true -- schools *are* grouped by enrollment and not ability. But I can't imagine a lot of local coaches were thrilled at the prospect of having to go through Charlotte, Raleigh and Rockingham to get to a state football title. That's a pretty tall order.

I just miss the competition that used to be in the playoffs. My uncles, cousins, and I would get in the car or van and drive all over the state(mountains/coast) to watch good playoff games back in the 90's and we were never sorry to have traveled that far because the games were good. For the past few years, the playoffs don't even excite us anymore. Whenever we look at the paper and see teams with 3-8 records going up against a powerhouse team, we have no excitement anymore. I miss those good old days (getting lost all the time, jammed packed staduims to watch two 10-0 or 9-1 teams facing off) so much because it turned into a tradition for use.

@willijs8 -- You are correct. If Dudley and Ragsdale each win their next two games, they'll play each other Nov. 27 in the 4-A West semifinals (aka the 4-A quarterfinals).

As for travel time, I'm not how that's working. Sure, Smith and Dudley are playing each other. But Page is facing a team from Charlotte, Northwest Guilford has to go to Rockingham, Watauga is coming to Jamestown to get crushed (probably) by Ragsdale and poor Southern Guilford has to go all the way to Havelock, which according to my map is a good 3rd-and-long from Cape Lookout.

Yes, *that* Cape Lookout.

Does anyone know anything about this Monroe Sun Valley team that Ragsdale will play this week?

so even though Ragsdale beat Dudley once, they may have to play at Dudley if both keep winning. What a bunch of BS. They taking their seeding process from the BCS

Because of the the rules that the NCHSAA has in place, Dudley had the right to drop the loss to Ragsdale because it was not a conference game. Teams have the right to schedule an endowment game in which they can use if they need to get into the playoffs. Since the Ragsdale game was out of conference, they were within the rules to drop the game so "technically" they did not lose to Ragsdale which in essence puth them into a tie with Ragsdale and RJ Reynolds. Therefor they had to draw out of a hat. Rules are rules, blame the coaches!

at the dudley and ragsdale game everybody and they mama( who was probably actually at the game) could see that dudley had the game taken from them by the refs. ragsdale people catchin balls out of bounds, calling holding on dudley every other play, taking away their touchdowns, ragsdale people trying to rip the facemask off of the dudley players and not calling anything. and everyone knows that happened and thats the only reason ragsdale won.

It's obvious that Dudley fans are going to believe they had that game taken away from them by the refs, not that their team just got beaten. So we'll all have to wait until Friday to see which team really is better. Therefore, if Dudley loses to Ragsdale again, let's all just say that the better team won and leave it at that. I don't want to see anymore belly-aching from Dudley fans if they lose again.
