WENTWORTH — Sheriff Sam Page on Friday named a 21-year veteran of the Rockingham County Sheriff’s Office as his chief deputy.
Abner Bullins, previously the sheriff’s administrative captain, was promoted to major. Page recognized him and other officers who recently received promotions during a brief ceremony at the Rockingham County Governmental Center.
Page called Bullins a solid leader who had demonstrated his leadership abilities and skills through the diverse jobs he’s held during his years with the sheriff’s office.
Bullins, 43, replaces Maj. Jimmy Thomas, who recently retired. Page said Bullins has held a variety of duties at the sheriff’s office, including working in telecommunications, as a narcotics investigator and shift supervisor. “I have worked in almost every division that we have here in some capacity,” Bullins said.
Page also recognized six other officers for promotions, all effective Oct. 24.
The officers’ level of training, skills and tenure with the department were considered in making the promotions. “It’s a weighted decision,” Page said.
Billy King was promoted to administrative captain. He will oversee purchasing and other financial duties within the sheriff’s office. Daryl Crowder, who was a patrol lieutenant, was promoted to administrative lieutenant in the civil division.
Jon Peters was promoted from corporal to sergeant within the patrol division. John Deane was promoted from sergeant to lieutenant in patrol. Donald Joyce and Ignacio Mendoza, both of whom previously worked in detention, were promoted to patrol deputies.
