REIDSVILLE — The driver of a Lincoln Town Car drifted into the wrong lane, causing an accident on N.C. 14 on Friday morning, the Highway Patrol said.

The accident was reported at 9:25 a.m. Friday near the American Red Cross offices. Trooper D.C. Yoder said the Town Car was driving north toward Eden in the left lane when it struck an Isuzu pickup traveling south.

Yoder said a witness reported seeing the driver of the car slowly drift into the truck's lane, hitting it head-on.

The pickup driver, Maurice Ashby Cooper Jr., 31, of 616 Forbes St. in Eden, was being evaluated late Friday afternoon in the emergency room at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center, a spokeswoman said.

The Town Car driver, Freddie Lee McCain, 61, of 1298 Quinsenberry Road in Eden, was listed in good condition.

Charges are pending against McCain, Yoder said.
