Suspect in cyclist’s death should have been in jail

I never knew the cyclist, Dave Sherman, who was tragically killed Oct. 24, but having attended his funeral, I wish I had. What a wonderful man Greensboro lost that day.

I would like to know why the person arrested in connection to this hit-and-run death, Grayson Dawson — who  was driving with a revoked license, who was charged in 2003 with driving without a license, and who has pending charges from June 2007 for failure to appear in court — is not in jail. It seems as if some of “Greensboro’s Most Wanted” meet these kinds of criteria.

Something is seriously wrong with our legal system. Maybe if the law had been enforced, this accident could have been avoided. Why must we wait until someone is killed? Please don’t associate this situation with bike safety. Cyclists can follow every bike rule there is; however, no one stands a chance when someone crosses to the other lane and hits him head on.

Because of her, a family lost a dad, husband and friend.
