Why the Eagles won: Elijah Jordan ran for 216 yards and two touchdowns, and Jeff Sims went 11-of-16 passing for 267 yards and five touchdowns as the Golden Eagles snapped a three-game skid to finish 5-6. Eric Ebron caught two of Sims’ scoring strikes and had three sacks, and Anthony Johnson, Marlon Hughes and Codie Davis also scored for Smith.
Smith head coach Rodney Brewington approached a member of the state playoff committee this week and asked if the Golden Eagles should feel comfortable leaving their equipment out with four wins already to their credit.
“He told me to leave it out,” Brewington said. “But we treated tonight like a playoff game. As a coach, you never want to put all your eggs in one hat, but tonight that’s kind of what we did.”
