Why the Tigers won: Ragsdale made Central pay for four turnovers, including a pair of fumbles in the final two minutes of the first half.
After the Tigers jumped ahead on a 3-yard touchdown run by D’onovan Smith and a 42-yard field goal by Kasey Redfern, the Bison botched a fake punt attempt late in the second quarter and the Tigers converted it into a 25-yard scoring strike from Luke Heavner to DeSean Anderson. Ragsdale then scored 13 seconds later after Central fumbled a handoff trying to run out the clock and Heavner found Tyquan Roberts from 20 yards out. Heavner was 6-of-10 for 126 yards, and Smith carried 25 times for 114.
Ragsdale clinched the Piedmont Triad 4-A title outright and completed its second consecutive undefeated regular season, a feat the program hasn’t achieved since 2001-02.
“They want to play hard and keep on playing,” head coach Tommy Norwood said. “This is a group that really just enjoys playing football.”
Records: Ragsdale 11-0, 6-0; High Point Central 7-3, 4-2.
